How Dare You CD Release Show, Skatepark of Tampa Halloween Party
Take Over Ybor City’s Crowbar October 30

(TAMPA, FL) – Next week, homegrown Tampa Bay promoter THX MGMT will further up the ante for its already beloved monthly “Big Trouble on Little Friday” Thursday-night shindigs with an event tailor-made for live-music fans eager to get a 24-hour jump on the Halloween weekend’s parties. Next Thursday, October 30, Ybor City venue Crowbar will play host to both a CD release gig by Orlando punk act How Dare You and a scarily stylish pre-Hallows Eve soiree.

From 7 until 10 p.m., world-renowned extreme-sports facility the Skatepark of Tampa and Florida-bred, nationally distributed music and culture magazine REAX are co-hosting a FREE Halloween party outside in the club’s Crow’s Nest beer garden. Costumes are encouraged, as there will be a contest featuring “killer” prizes, and guys, girls and assorted ghouls 21 and over can avail themselves of $2 Pabst Blue Ribbons, Miller High Lifes and Gatorade shots. REAX’s own DJ duo Sides of Ranch will provide the soundtrack.

At the peak of the party, everyone can head inside for a show to die for: Orlando’s How Dare You will headline in celebration of the release of their new album Comfort Road, out on noted independent Gainesville label Fail-Safe Records. How Dare You is joined by fellow Orlando act XOXO, along with Sarasota’s Saint Sweethearts, hometown Tampa group For All The Unheard, and The Copyrights, from Illinois. All the bands are headed to Gainesville the following day to perform as featured acts at that city’s legendary three-day punk cavalcade The Fest. Once inside, fans of drinking age can take advantage of free “Kill The Keg” beer specials every half hour.

It’s an evening absolutely jammed with entertainment, giving every Halloween, punk and live-music fan an opportunity to let his or her demons loose a night early.

Crowbar is located at 1812 N. 17th Street in Ybor City. Entry to the Crow’s Nest is free; there’s a $5 cover for the show inside. All 18 & up are welcome. Brought to you by THX MGMT, Crowbar, Skatepark of Tampa and REAX Music Magazine.

New Granada Presents… and THX Mgmt invite you to join us Friday night (10/24) at New World Brewery.

Jarvik 7 (12:00)
Ebu Gogo (11:00)
Oceans Rise! (10:00)

Tampa’s Jarvik 7 (led by Dumbwaiter Matt Bowman and appearing for the first time with new guitarist Dennis Wenrich) will be bringing their atmospheric shoegaze back to the New World patio.  In addition to the new axeman, the band has been incorporating stunning visuals produced by Mark Thompson.  If you missed them that last time they played NWB (quite a while ago), you might want to make it out for this one.  Ebu Gogo are hard to pin down.  This Rhode Island trio play intricately meandering quasi-jam-metal-indie-funk w/ plenty of synth-keys and danceable grooves to show they don’t take themselves too seriously and allow some fun to creep in.  Oceans Rise! are a new outfit out of the Tampa Bay area consisting of guys who previously played in metal/hardcore bands and finally “figured it out” (according to their MySpace page).  From what I can tell, they ‘figured out’ the complete antithesis of metal to create nice subdued (primarily) instrumental indie rock that’s nice to sit and listen to with your eyes closed (and I mean that in a nice way).
